What Should You Look for in a Video Production Company?

Choosing a production company can be difficult.
There are hundreds of companies that can shoot, edit and deliver a video. But the right production partner should offer much more than cameras and post-production.
They should understand what you're trying to communicate — and know how to turn that into something people actually want to watch.
Here are some of the things we believe matter most.
1. Look beyond the showreel
A showreel is designed to impress.
That's its job.
But it doesn't always tell you what it would actually be like to work with a production company.
Look at their full projects.
Do they understand different brands and audiences? Can they tell a story? Is the quality consistent? Does their work have a recognisable point of view?
The best production company isn't necessarily the one with the flashiest showreel.
It's the one whose work feels right for your brand.
2. Find a team that understands the brief
A good production company shouldn't simply take your brief and start filming.
They should ask questions.
Who are you trying to reach?
What should the audience feel?
Where will the content live?
What does success look like?
Understanding the purpose behind the film is what separates production from simply creating nice-looking footage.
3. Creative thinking matters
Production isn't just execution.
The right team should be able to contribute creatively — whether that's refining an idea, suggesting a better location, developing a visual approach or finding a stronger way to tell the story.
You aren't just hiring cameras.
You're hiring creative problem-solvers.
4. Pay attention to the process
Ask what happens before the shoot.
A strong production process should include proper pre-production, creative development, scheduling, locations, crew planning, shot lists and contingency planning.
The better the preparation, the more freedom the creative team has once the cameras start rolling.
5. Look for versatility
Your brand probably won't always need the same type of film.
You might need a cinematic campaign one month, social content the next and a documentary-style piece after that.
Look for a production company with range.
Different styles are valuable, but a consistent level of craft is even more important.
6. Consider what happens after the shoot
The shoot is only one part of the process.
Ask about editing, colour grading, sound design, motion graphics, visual effects and content adaptations.
A strong production partner should be thinking about the entire content ecosystem — not just the hero film.
7. Most importantly: find the right creative fit
Production is collaborative.
You'll spend a lot of time with the people you hire, and the best work usually happens when everyone is invested in the same creative goal.
Find a team that understands your brand, challenges your thinking when necessary and genuinely cares about the final result.
Because ultimately, you're not looking for someone to simply make a video.
You're looking for a partner who can turn an idea into something people remember.
